ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING PROGRAMME
Assignment: Combinational and Sequential Circuits
OBJECTIVES:
After completing the assignment, you should be able?to:
. Design?a?4-bit ?synchronous?binary?counter?using?J-K?Flip-Flops?and?other?basic gates.
INTRODUCTION:
In?this?assignment,?you?will?explore?the?operation?of?commonly?applied?logic?gates,?flip-?flops,?and build?a?custom?counter using them. You will?also?display the?counting?digits?using a 7-segment LED display.
EQUIPMENTS / MATERIALS:
Please create a free account at www.tinkercad.com. You can use any of?the following?components from the website provided:
.?Multimeter / Oscilloscope
. Power?Supply?/?Function?Generator
.?Breadboard / Breadboard?Small
. Pushbutton?/?DIP?Switch?DPST?(1,?4,?6)
.?Resistors
.?Wires
. Any?suitable LOGIC gates?(AND,?OR, NOT, NAND, XOR)
.?7473 Dual J-K?Flip-Flops
.?CD4511?7-Segment Decoder
.?7-Segment Display
ASSIGNMENT:
You?are?required?to?build?a?4-bit?synchronous?counter?that?repeatedly?counts?from?the?first?digit to the?last?digit?of?your?student?ID.?If?there?are repeated?digit(s)?in your?student?ID, you may replace?it?(or them) by?any?other non-repeating?digit(s).?The?counting?should?be?applied?everytime a?pushbutton is depressed.?The digit?being counted?will?be displayed on a ?7-
Segment LED Display. Examples of?the student ID?sequences:
Student ID Example |
Repeated Digit to be Changed to |
Final Counting Sequence |
0329481 |
No changes allowed |
0 > 3 > 2 > 9 > 4 > 8 > 1 > repeat from 0 |
0336495 |
03X6495 (X = any non repeating number) |
Eg: 0 > 3 > 1 > 6 > 4 > 9 > 5 > repeat from 0 |
0336856 |
03X685Y (X,Y = any non repeating number) |
Eg: 0 > 3 > 1 > 6 > 8 > 5 > 2 > repeat from 0 |
0132456 |
If all the digits are < 8,?change any one of the digit to be ≥ 8 and < 16 |
Eg: 0 > 9 > 3 > 2 > 4 > 5 > 6 > repeat from 0 |
REPORT:
Assignment should be submitted online in?a?standard report?format?in?PDF?filetype,?including
the following?sections:
1. ??Cover Page: Name, student ID, title of?assignment, date of?submission
