INTS10001 – Introduction to International Politics

First Assignment (20% of overall mark): 750-word essay

Due 5pm Thursday 28 March 2024

The purpose of this assignment is to develop: (a) your understanding of the historical periods that have shaped the development of the current international political system; (b) your ability to understand processes of change and/or continuity over the history of global politics.

You are required to answer ONE of the following questions:

1.   How did the long transition to capitalism in Great Britain impact international relations in the 19th century?

2.   Did World War 1 serve as the ‘solvent of empire’?

3.   How has the use of the term “self-determination” changed since World War 1?

4.   ‘Francis Fukuyama should have known better; it was obvious that the end of the Cold War was not “the end of history” even then.’ Is this statement correct?
