You may make and present a work of art.

Graduate students should plan to write a 5-page artist statement.

Undergraduate students should write a 3-page artist statement.

The artist statement should describe your questions, research, process, and reasoning behind your choice of materials. The statement should also incorporate some of the content discussed in class – you may write about how a particular reading or artist inspired you, or how your work situates in art history. For example, does your practice entail street photography or studio portraiture? Who are some of your artistic predecessors? How does your work extend or diverge from others’ ideas?

Please prepare to share your work in person, or through images, with your classmates on the last day of class. Please let me know at least two weeks before projects are due if I need to make special arrangements for the class to be able to see/experience your work (technology, space, etc.).

Formatting:

All written assignments should be typed in Times New Roman, 12-point, and double-spaced.

Please follow the Chicago Manual of Style. to cite references.
